Brendan Rodgers has named his Celtic starting XI to face Motherwell this afternoon.
The Celtic manager gets his head back to domestic business after earning Celtic a huge Champions League fixture against Bayern Munich despite losing to Aston Villa midweek.
Now with Celtic’s next fixture against Motherwell up next, Brendan Rodgers has named his starting eleven and made a big call on returning Portuguese hero, Jota.

Jota makes the bench as Brendan Rodgers names his Celtic team to face Motherwell
The Celtic team to face Motherwell is as follows:
- Starting XI: Schmeichel, Ralston, Carter-Vickers, Trusty, Taylor, Mcgregor, McCowan, Hatate, Kuhn, Maeda, Idah
- Substitutes: Sinisalo, Johnston, Scales, Jota, Yang, Nawrocki, Kenny, Engels, Bernardo
Rodgers has gone with two changes in the defence that lost to Aston Villa with Schmeichel in goal and a back four of Greg Taylor, Auston Trusty, Cameron Carter-Vickers and Anthony Ralston.
The midfield has one change with Callum McGregor, Reo Hatate and Luke McCowan being given the job of marshalling the centre of the pitch.
Nicolas Kuhn and Daizen Maeda have the job of breaking down the managerless Motherwell defence with Adam Idah leading the line after his impressive Aston Villa performance.
Celtic fans react as Brendan Rodgers names Jota on the bench vs Motherwell
Reacting to the starting XI, one Celtic fan said, “Jota was always going to come off the bench.” as another replied, “Jota on the… bench?”
One fan questioned one of Rodgers’ changes, “Why’s Johnston dropped?” and another praised the inclusion of Ralston and said, “Bricky gonna run riot.”
Another Celtic fan put, “Ralston over Johnston?”
In a move clearly designed to give the Canadian fullback a rest, Rodgers is utilising his squad to get through this tricky run of fixtures.
The Celtic team should be good enough to win the match but if the Celtic manager needs to, he can always call on Jota on the bench.
