‘As soon’ – Callum McGregor states what was said at half-time before Celtic’s equaliser at Rangers

Another season. And another Premiership title for Celtic.

On Sunday, the final Glasgow derby of the season took place, as Celtic recorded a 1-1 draw at Rangers, and it raised a rather interesting stat.

Celtic beat Rangers in the League Cup final in December, but have only been victorious in the Premiership against their bitter rivals once this term, which is pretty unusual for the champions and a Brendan Rodgers side.

But securing that main crown isn’t just about beating the second-placed team, but showing your mentality to keep going to the highest standards at all times.

The Hoops have done that in bucket loads, and it’s that mindset that is a key reason behind the club’s continued success and dominance.

That was needed at the break at Ibrox when Celtic were 1-0 down.

Callum McGregor shares Celtic’s half-time message against Rangers

Adam Idah scored the equalising goal for Celtic, although, he should have netted moments before Rangers had opened the scoring.

After the match, Callum McGregor stated that the feeling inside the dressing room at the break was that Celtic were ‘well in the game’.

The Celtic captain added that the players were told to ‘stay calm’, ‘keep switching play’, including how the champions were finding ‘bigger spaces’ on the pitch than expected, as he told Sky Sports.

“Not a great time to concede,” stated McGregor. “But we were well in the game. That was the message at half-time.

“As soon as you start moving the ball, you are getting massive spaces, and actually more space than we thought we did at some points.

“The message was to just try and stay calm. Keep switching the game, and then you will get your opportunities, which in the second half we did, and we could have won it in the end there.”

First and second half stats as Celtic draw at Rangers

Let’s be honest, the last time Celtic were at Ibrox, they couldn’t control the game as they liked and were well-beaten on the day.

That wasn’t the case this time around, especially in the second half, because it was Celtic who controlled the game and should have won it, in the end.

This is how the first and second half stats looked during the game, as posted by SofaScore.
