Celtic player ratings vs Rangers, 4/10 defender must be replaced and 6/10 forward redeems himself

Celtic were held to a 1-1 draw by fierce rivals Rangers on Sunday afternoon.

Brendan Rodgers was given a selection headache before kick off after Jota was ruled out for nine months.

Fans were shocked to see Nicolas Kuhn fail to even make the bench, days after people noticed he was one of the four Celtic stars to miss training in the build-up to the game.

As predicted by Kris Boyd, Rangers didn’t provide the Scottish Premiership champions with a guard of honour.

The hosts thought they had taken the lead in the first half after Nicolas Raskin headed home from a free-kick, but VAR chalked the goal off for an offside.

Celtic were then dealt a lesson in ruing missed opportunities as Adam Idah’s saved effort was punished as Cyriel Dessers immediately went up the other end and scored.

Idah then redeemed himself after the break as the forward did brilliantly to turn, swivel and score with a powerful shot.

Despite chances for both sides, neither one of them could take the glory and it ended all square.

With that, here’s how 67 Hail Hail rated the individual performances of the players at Ibrox.

Celtic player ratings vs Rangers

Viljami Sinisalo – 6

Pulled off a great save in the first half and will rightly feel let down by his defence for the first goal conceded. Also produced a vital stop with 10 minutes to go with the score 1-1. Was one of the better performers in his Glasgow derby debut.

Anthony Ralston – 5

The drop off between Ralston and Alistair Johnston is alarmingly apparent in games like this. Was by no means the worst player but didn’t particularly catch the eye.

Cameron Carter-Vickers – 7

The best of the bunch. Defended relatively well, stopped a lot of attacks in their tracks and led from the back

Liam Scales – 4

Let the Rangers attack bully him all afternoon and looked uncomfortable whenever he was near the ball, slipping and sliding all over the place. A first-choice centre-back to alongside Carter-Vickers should be on the shopping list and a priority alongside any attacking signings.

Greg Taylor – 5

If this is to be Taylor’s last Glasgow derby game as a Celtic player then it won’t be one he’d remember too fondly. Gave the ball away carelessly a few times but did try to offer more going forward.

Reo Hatate – 5

Was fairly solid in the middle of the park and began to improve over the game as Hatate was given more time and space on the pitch.

Callum McGregor – 5

Wasn’t given the chance to dictate the play like he usually does. Was bright in some spells but nothing groundbreaking.

Arne Engels – 5

Set pieces really let Engels down. Beating the first man and making sure the corner doesn’t go out of play before it has reached a player should be the bare minimum for a club-record signing.

James Forrest – 5

Seems to be trying too hard to score that historic first goal of the season but was okay in patches.

Adam Idah – 6

Missed plenty of chances and looked like he was going to pay for his first half miss. Made up for it though with a brilliant equaliser and hopefully a big confidence booster/

Daizen Maeda – 6

Great work in the build up to Idah’s goal, displaying that relentless work rate we’ve known and loved for the last few years. Didn’t get many chances to get a shot away himself but didn’t stop all afternoon.
