Normal service resumed for Celtic in the Scottish Premiership on Tuesday night.

After Celtic lost to Hibernian over the weekend, Brendan Rodgers ensured the team bounced back in style against a rejuvenated Aberdeen side that had won back-to-back league games.

The champions of Scotland did just that, as Celtic beat Aberdeen 5-1 and opened up a 16-point lead at the top of the Premiership table.

Rodgers reverted to type after that poor showing at Easter Road and he played the same XI that put on a brave showing in Munich.

That included Arne Engels keeping his place in the XI and it’s fair to say that he put on a bit of a show in the middle of the park, alongside Reo Hatate and Callum McGregor.

Celtic fans loved Arne Engels’ performance during win over Aberdeen

Engels is Celtic’s record signing and that just adds to the pressure on the 21-year-old’s shoulders because he is already playing for a pressure cooker of a club.

But, as the games tick by, the rising Belgium star is showcasing his worth and impressing the fans in huge ways.

The former Augsburg star helped himself to two assists against the Dons – playing 80 minutes – and Celtic supporters on social media loved what they saw from him.

@TamMichaelL loved Engels’ display: ‘Engels showing his worth here tonight. A masterclass from the young Belgian’.

@thEnd0fTheStorm loves the midfielder’s workrate: ‘Tremendous. The ground Engels makes up is impressive’.

@_Lennon1967 added: ‘Engels is different class’.

@RogerMcMonagle has been impressed by Celtic’s record signing: ‘Arne Engels has put some shift in tonight. Aberdeen have 5 in the middle and concentrating on snuffing out McGregor. Engels has been everywhere doing the dirty stuff’.

@Samuel02Johnson continued the praise: ‘Maeda, Engels and McGregor all very good there. 3-0 at half time and we’ve not even been particularly good. A few more in the second half would do nicely’.

@ArneEngelsfan is Engels’ number one fan: ‘Engels has been crucial in all goals’.

@pjl67_ gave Engels Man of the Match: ‘Who’s everyone’s MOTM so far mine is definitely Engels’.

Engels’ stats for Celtic this season

The great thing about what Engels is producing is that you just know that the best is yet to come – and that’s next season.

But, for now, that’s 13 goal involvements in the league for the all-action midfielder and those numbers will just continue to rise.

The likes of Nicolas Kuhn – and the man Engels replaced, Matt O’Riley – are prime examples that patience is a virtue with these little gems Celtic bring to Glasgow.

That’s why it’s going to be very exciting to see the heights he can hit because there is every chance he can surpass the levels O’Riley brought to the table.
