It hasn’t taken Adam Idah long to score his first goal since leaving Celtic.

The week started with Idah unsure as to whether he would still be repping the famous green and white colours in Glasgow because there was a question mark over his transfer to Swansea City.

But on transfer deadline day, Idah secured a £7 million move to Swansea, and celebrated it by helping the Republic of Ireland rescue a crucial point against Hungary on Saturday evening.

Idah came off the bench to net a stoppage-time goal – Celtic fans have seen that one before – and it caught the attention of the Parkhead faithful.

Celtic fans react to Adam Idah’s equalising goal for the Republic of Ireland vs Hungary

It’s going to be interesting to see how Idah gets on at Swansea, even if it’s in England’s second-tier, because many Celtic supporters were pleased he scored for Ireland.

Of course, there is that Irish and Celtic connection, but several were particularly pleased for the player himself, given how recent times have panned out for him.

There were even a few sarcastic comments that Celtic should sign Idah, given that Brendan Rodgers is still short in the striker department, despite signing Kelechi Iheanacho as a free agent.

@seanmckeown67 had nothing but positive words to say about Idah: ‘Delighted for the big man. Plenty of Celtic fans love him. Committed and scored on important occasions. Good luck, the big Cork man. 🍀🍀💚.’

@celtic6588 congratulated Idah: ‘Well done, Adam Idah. 👏’

@Airthreycastle3 noting another late goal from Celtic’s departed striker: ‘Well done, Adam Idah must have been a nightmare few weeks, delighted he scored another last-minute goal.’

@SFebers made an interesting Dolberg comparison: ‘A bit of fact shining through so.e of the rubbish written recently…p.s Idah scored tonight Dolberg couldn’t get by Souttar and Hanley JUST SAYING.’

@JohnCorley1991 with a sarcastic response to Idah’s goal: ‘@CelticFC should sign Adam Idah 💚.’

@Gav300879 thinks the transfer fee weighed heavily: ‘Much love for Adam Idah. Good striker just hampered by fans’ expectations of being a £9m transfer fee striker at Celtic…’

Plenty of these sarcastic shouts, as @Jamesc067 added: ‘That boy Idah for Ireland looks brilliant, should have a look at signing him @CelticFC.’

@AJ_CELTIC continued the theme: ‘That boy Adam Idah looks a pler btw…’

@Gizzybhoy1991 noted the service Idah was getting: ‘Amazing what happens when you cross balls into the box for a striker.’

@AJ_CELTIC stating facts: ‘Track record of BIG goals.’

@Lattaballix wanted Idah up top at Ibrox: ‘Delighted for big Idah. Would have killed to have him up front at Ibrox the other week.’

@Bigirishcelt made his feelings clear to those in charge at Celtic: ‘I’ll never get my head around selling Idah and not replacing him…’

@jimbobnbh saw the funny side: ‘Idah scores with a great, powerful header to grab a late draw for Ireland – of course he did 😂😂.’

Idah’s record at Celtic

Given that Idah’s final game was Celtic’s Champions League exit to Kairat Almaty, he left on a sour note, and it should never have been that way.

Yes, he divided opinion, and the criticism was strong, but that’s what happens when you represent a club of this size.

The one defence of Idah is the fact that he wasn’t a regular starter, nor would he complete 90 minutes often, so his numbers need to be respected a lot more.
