Someone at Celtic owes fans an explanation after what Brendan Rodgers said about selling Adam Idah

Adam Idah left Celtic to join Swansea City on a transfer deadline day move.

Idah was under pressure at Celtic after the big Irish striker struggled to recapture the form that made him a hero in the eyes of many fans during his loan spell and his first permanent season at the club.

With Celtic looking to add another striker before the transfer window ended yesterday, Idah was still allowed to leave the club despite being lacking reinforcements in that area of the team.

Swansea City bought Idah for £6m and it’s a transfer that was never meant to happen after what Brendan Rodgers said on the 29th of August.

Brendan Rodgers said selling Adam Idah can’t happen unless a replacement was lined up

Brendan Rodgers categorically stated that selling Adam Idah was off the table unless Celtic had a replacement in the door.

The Hoops boss was unequivocal.

Rodgers said of selling the Celtic striker prior to transfer deadline day, “There’s interest in Adam, but no one can leave here unless we get players in to replace. It’s as simple as that.

“There’s been negotiations and chat around it, but I have to have players in here before I can consider letting anyone go.

“I think for the likes of Yang, it’s been ongoing for Yang for a little while. I understand it.

“When you’re a player that’s probably been mostly used maybe as a squad player over a couple of years, there comes a point in time when you maybe want to move on and play.”

Who at Celtic owes supporters an Adam Idah explanation?

So if Rodgers was crystal clear about not selling Adam Idah without a striker replacing the Irishman, why did Celtic do it?

At the last count, the Celtic first-team is short of a striker now after two deadline day targets rejected a move to Parkhead.

So who owes the fans an explanation? Is it Brendan Rodgers? Surely not because his instructions were clear.

Is it Peter Lawwell? It can’t be as the Celtic chairman takes nothing to do with transfer business at the club.

Is it CEO Michael Nicholson? All transfer deals will need to be verified and signed off by someone so could the chief executive owe the fans an explanation?

Or does Celtic’s finance officer Chris McKay? He is the man who controls the purse strings at Celtic but does he have anything to do with transfers?

What about Dermot Desmond? The person with the largest single shareholding at Celtic surely has bigger fish to fry than getting involved in what players stay or leave the club, right?

There are many questions remaining unanswered for the Celtic supporters but the sad reality is, those answers they seek will not be forthcoming any time soon.
