What a week it has been for Marcelo Saracchi.
The Celtic defender joined from Boca Juniors on a season-long loan deal this summer, and he has made a positive start at the champions of Scotland.
Saracchi’s performances for Celtic have resulted in him earning a recall to the Uruguay national team during the October international break.
But it has gone one better for the 27-year-old because Uruguay coach Marcelo Bielsa handed Saracchi the captaincy during their friendly win over the Dominican Republic.

Celtic fans react as Marcelo Saracchi handed the Uruguay captaincy
It seems as though Saracchi is becoming a bit of a fan favourite with the Celtic Park faithful, and they are delighted he has been handed such an honour.
Many want the new Hoops star to sign a permanent contract because there isn’t anything in his loan deal that suggests Celtic will buy him outright, as of this moment.
Some have even suggested that Saracchi has performed better than Kieran Tierney during the early months of the campaign, but either way, many are pleased for the new left-back.
Interesting take from @bhoysviews: ‘That’s not going to help the purchase price. But buzzing for him.’
@PaulP35709625 also mentioning why Celtic didn’t add more in the loan deal: ‘Can’t believe we didn’t include a fee to buy!’
Saracchi can do no wrong, as @Barrybhoy72 stated: ‘He’s not put a foot wrong since he’s been here.’
@ConaghanTony1 is also mentioning how Saracchi’s price might increase now: ‘Pricing us out of a move unless a fee was agreed as part of the loan deal.’
Another call for Celtic to keep Saracchi: ‘I really love this wee guy, and I hope that come the end of the loan spell, we can try and keep him here.’
@navig3t0r with another interesting take: ‘Cracking player and great to have him in the side, will hopefully encourage others to consider Celtic.’
Who’s made a better impact? Tierney or the back-up option, @Celtic67777 threw it on the table: ‘Would love to get him on a permanent, brings great energy to the side and I’d argue he’s looked better than KT at times.’
@AKH_2001 also showed love for Saracchi: ‘He’s been perfectly fine. A positive story out of Celtic. In this economy?’
@68c6c8f2872948f with a harsh take: ‘Uruguay must be struggling.’
Another call to buy, as @Rich322020 added: ‘We should be buying him 100% Can we buy him in January?’
