Celtic’s fixture against Aberdeen has been called off after a late pitch inspection forced a postponement at Pittodrie.
After a bout of heavy rain, Aberdeen announced a pitch inspection at Pittodrie at 3:05pm this afternoon.
Just over an hour later, Celtic hero Chris Sutton posted on X that the fixture had been called off just after he arrived in The Granite City.
Celtic fans would have been almost all the way there to Aberdeen just before the announcement was made.
But it appears that all this hassle could have been avoided if Aberdeen’s original request to have the Pittodrie pitch assessed was honoured before the Celtic fixture was due to kick off.

Aberdeen vs Celtic pitch inspection requested ‘hours’ before
SFA officials took to the Pittodrie pitch to see if the game against Celtic could go ahead safely. And it appears it could not.
And it appears that the Dons requested the inspection to go ahead three-and-a-half hours earlier.
A report from the Press & Journal said, “A pitch inspection took place at 4pm after the Dons raised concerns over playability of the Pittodrie pitch – particularly the water in front of the Merkland Stand.
“Aberdeen had initially asked for a pitch inspection at 1.30pm, but the Scottish football authorities were only able to facilitate it three-and-a-half-hours later.”
The travelling Celtic support will be fuming because if the original request was honoured, then the gruelling journey to the north of Scotland could have been avoided.
SPFL announce a ‘waterlogged pitch’ as reason for call off
The SPFL released their own statement on the postponement as the league officials cited a waterlogged pitch as a reason for the call off.
Taking to X, the SPFL said, “Game OFF. William Hill Premiership, AberdeenFC v CelticFC.
“Postponed – waterlogged pitch.”
As yet, there is no official confirmation of when the fixture will be rearranged but Celtic fans will be gutted at not being allowed the chance to close the gap to Hearts after Derek McInnes’ side suffered defeat against St Mirren this week.
