Brendan Rodgers is marching towards another Premiership title in Celtic colours.
On Tuesday night, Celtic beat Aberdeen 5-1 to open up a 16-point lead at the top of the Premiership table and bounce back after the woeful showing at Easter Road over the weekend.
Yes, that performance against Hibs wasn’t great, but the players showed at Celtic Park why they are champions and heading towards another title under Brendan Rodgers.
The funny thing about the Hibs game was that, even though it was a defeat, by the end of the day, the Hoops had still extended their lead at the top – via goal difference – after Rangers lost to St Mirren.
It further emphasised how Rodgers’ side are strolling towards the title and another possible Treble if they can win the Scottish Cup.
But Chris Sutton explained how you still have to do the business on the field of play, no matter how easy it becomes.

Chris Sutton says ‘everyone is saying’ that the ‘league is over’ after Celtic beat Aberdeen
This performance against Jimmy Thelin’s side proves that the team isn’t putting their foot on the brakes and relaxing.
Given the huge lead, Sutton stated that ‘everyone’ feels that ‘the league is over’, but he pointed out that the players still have to ‘go out and perform’, as he stated on social media.
The former striker admitted that the first-half display from Celtic was slightly off, but the ‘ruthless finishing’ was that ‘difference’.
“A lot to admire about this Celtic team,” said Sutton.
“Everyone is saying, ‘the league is over’, yet the team have to go out and perform. Not at their best in the first half, but ruthless finishing was the difference.
“Engels excellent and Maeda is the fittest player in the universe.”
Celtic’s stats against Aberdeen
Yes, Aberdeen will feel that they should have caused more damage in that opening half an hour because the home side were sloppy.
But, as soon as that midfield got control of the ball, it was only going to go one way.
| Celtic | Aberdeen |
| 16 Shots | 8 Shots |
| 7 Shots on target | 1 Shot on target |
| 778 total passes | 338 total passes |
| 196 forward passes | 121 forward passes |
| 123 successful final third passes | 49 successful final third passes |
| 22 touches in the box | 8 touches in the box |
Now it’s about marching forward and getting this title over the line as soon as possible.
Over the weekend, Celtic take on St Mirren before a rare week break before the Scottish Cup resumes, then it’s the small matter of Rangers coming to town.
