Celtic make the trip to Pittodrie to face Aberdeen knowing that history is on their side when it comes to playing league games on a Wednesday night.

The Hoops’ original game vs Aberdeen was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch and winning the game in hand would see them move above Rangers into second place, five points behind league leaders Hearts.

Martin O’Neill’s side cannot afford any more slip-ups and thankfully, playing on a Wednesday has proved to be a good omen.

Celtic’s excellent record when playing on a Wednesday night

The Hoops have always had a good record against Aberdeen, but playing on a Wednesday provides an even bigger advantage.

Out of the last 22 Scottish Premiership away matches played on a Wednesday, Celtic have won 20 of those games. Both of those losses came away to Hibernian in May 2023 and Dundee United in December 2025.

Two of those victories came in fixtures against the Dons, including a 5-1 hammering in May 2025, where a heavily rotated side put the hosts to the sword.

Their other Wednesday win vs Aberdeen in this run of games was a narrow 1-0 win in the Granite City in December 2024.

That all goes out of the window though because of the current situation Celtic find themselves in with regards to the title race.

Fans have been ‘screaming’ for Celtic to deploy a 4-4-2 formation, and those sorts of changes may be required to get the three points

There may also be changes to the starting XI as another Glasgow derby awaits, and it will be the fifth time Celtic have played in the week before facing Rangers. That doesn’t have a huge bearing, though, and only three points will be the first port of call to continue this impressive run.
