Finally, a performance to cherish for Celtic on the road in Europe.

It just had to be that Celtic win their first European away tie since 2021 in Martin O’Neill’s final game in charge in Europe, but what a way to do it.

Before heading out to Rotterdam, many Celtic supporters were fearful of what would happen against Feyenoord; even our 67 Hail Hail writers weren’t so optimistic about the end result.

But, not only did Celtic beat Robin van Persie’s Feyenoord 3-1, but it was a deserved, controlled and measured three points from the champions of Scotland.

James McFadden on ‘strange’ situation during Celtic’s win over Feyenoord

Even though the Hoops went behind to an early goal from Japan star Ayase Ueda, by the time the players went in for a break, Yang and Reo Hatate had put the team ahead.

You expected van Persie’s struggling side to come out in the second half with intent, aggression and put the opposition under serious, serious pressure from the get-go.

But as James McFadden touched upon, just after the hour mark, it was ‘so, so strange’ because Celtic were kicking the ball around like it was a ‘training session.’

On one hand, you have to give Celtic credit for how they controlled the match, but on the other side, McFadden couldn’t believe how Feyenoord were acting like ‘mannequins.’

“What are Feyenoord doing?” questioned McFadden just after the hour mark on BBC Sport. “So, so strange. Celtic are just knocking it about like a training session against mannequins.”
