Jeffrey Schlupp has made quite the impression since joining Celtic from Crystal Palace.
The 32-year-old was a loan signing on transfer deadline day and brought it as cover for starting left-back Greg Taylor after Alex Valle returned to Barcelona.
But pretty much straight away, Schlupp wasn’t just starting games for Brendan Rodgers, but in the XI for Celtic’s crucial Champions League clash in Munich.
Unfortunately, it ended in Celtic heading for the exit door after a cruel Alphonso Davies stoppage-time goal sent Vincent Kompany’s side through.
Despite the heartbreaking ending, those in green and white colours did themselves proud on such a big stage.
There were many great battles across the pitch and no more than Michael Olise facing his old teammate, Schlupp.

Michael Olise ‘enjoyed’ his battle with Jeffrey Schlupp
Taylor started at Celtic Park and was unfortunate when Olise cut inside onto his left foot and curled a stunning shot to open the scoring.
Rodgers then changed that up for the trip to the Allianz Arena and Schlupp was up against a familiar face because he played alongside Olise for many years at Selhurst Park.
The Bayern star shared his experience of stepping up to such a high level and how he actually ‘enjoyed’ his battle with Celtic’s new left-back, as he told CBS Sports.
“It’s a big jump and it definitely took some time to adapt to, if I am honest,” said Olise about leaving Palace for Champions League football.
“I spoke with (Thierry Henry) a lot, when I was transitioning, he gave me some pointers and stuff.
“Against Jeff (Schlupp) as well. I played against him for three years, so he knows a lot about me. He knows what I like to do. It was a good match-up. I enjoyed it, to be honest.”
Schlupp’s stats for Celtic against Bayern Munich
The impressive thing here is that Schlupp isn’t anywhere near his best, in regards to his fitness and match sharpness.
Plus, he has just walked through the doors but is already producing such performances, including being rated 7.68 for his performance in Munich.
| Fouled | Total tackles | Interceptions | Clearances | Accurate Long Balls | Touches | Rating |
| 1 | 6 | 5 | 9 | 4 | 69 | 7.68 |
It remains to be seen how Schlupp performs from now until the end of the season because there is a title to win.
On top of the huge possibility of a Treble heading Celtic’s way and if Schlupp continues to impress, then many will want him signed up for good.
