Motherwell vs Celtic is set to be shown on Sky Sports after all.

The game at Fir Park tomorrow evening is simply as big as they come. If Celtic lose, they risk losing the Scottish Premiership title to Hearts with one game to spare.

A draw would guarantee a title-deciding curtain-closer between the top two at Celtic Park three days later.

Hearts face Falkirk in a simultaneous game at Tynecastle. This had been Sky’s initial television pick, but the broadcaster will now show both.

Celtic fans, what was your immediate reaction when you saw John Beaton and Andrew Dallas named for Fir Park?

Motherwell vs Celtic to be shown on Sky Sports despite Pay Per View proposal

With the game initially slated not to be broadcasted at all, Motherwell released it on their own Pay Per View service, priced at £15.

After a public outcry for the game to be shown on a mainstream broadcaster to add to the drama and interest, common sense has prevailed.

Despite Sky’s decision to show the game, Motherwell confirmed they will still offer their PPV stream for fans without a Sky subscription.

Celtic’s meetings with Motherwell this season have all been close. On all three occasions, the home side has been victorious.

The three meetings have all been under different Hoops managers. Brendan Rodgers’ side were saved by a last-minute Daizen Maeda winner at Celtic Park last October.

In December, Wilfried Nancy’s team were dismantled by the steelmen, losing 2-0 in a game described by some as the club’s most comprehensive domestic non-derby defeat in decades.

The sides’ last meeting saw Martin O’Neill’s men run out 3-1 winners after falling behind. A red card for Emmanuel Longelo proved to be a decisive moment in the game.

Of course, ‘Well boss Jens Berthel Askou is a contender to be Celtic’s next manager. In fact, he is favourite with the bookmakers at the time of writing.

Many Hoops fans would probably never forgive him if he deals a hammer blow to their title hopes tomorrow.

Jens Berthel Askou widely being tipped for the Celtic job

The Fir Park boss hasn’t made any noise about his Motherwell future, but the media certainly has.

Charlie Mulgrew has given Askou a rousing endorsement, saying that his football would be ‘perfect’ for the Scottish champions.

Frank McAvennie has also urged Celtic to appoint Askou, saying that he would be the one to take the Hoops to the next level.

Asked about who will be leading Celtic this August, Tom English saw him as the favourite, describing the appointment as a ‘no-brainer’.

Even Chris Sutton is sold on Askou – and he is not an easy man to please.
