Celtic have work to do despite a healthy lead at the top of the table.

Since the turn of the year, Brendan Rodgers has witnessed a few iffy performances by his side, including on the road.

That was proven during Celtic’s 3-3 draw at Dundee on Tuesday night when the champions took the lead twice, but still couldn’t win the game.

From the start of the season and up until the New Year, Celtic had only conceded four goals in the Premiership, but since then something has changed.

Seven goals have been conceded and this is despite the manager trying everything possible, including dropping players for poor performances.

Auston Trusty has been one man in and out of the XI in recent weeks and he felt Neil Lennon’s wrath post-match at Dens Park.

Yes, more is needed from Cameron Carter-Vickers, but he can perhaps get away with it because he has credit in the bank, but Trusty hasn’t.

Lennon thinks both players were ‘rattled’ by Dundee and that was proven by the opposition’s second and third goal, as he told Sky Sports Football (14/01/25 at 10:10 pm).

Sky Sports cameras caught Rodgers’ reaction to Dundee’s third goal when Trusty let his man get the better of him from a corner and, once again, Lennon wasn’t a happy man when watching that back, as he had a message to Rodgers about how there is ‘work to do’.

“It’s all about Simon Murray for me,” said Lennon. “I haven’t seen two centre-halves at Celtic this season in a domestic game being as rattled as they were, particularly in the second half.

“Carter-Vickers does what he can, but still, he can’t stop the deflection. It all comes from Simon Murray making something out of nothing and it’s poor from Trusty.

On Dundee’s third goal: “Of course, he (Trusty) should (do better),” added Lennon. “You are the main header of the ball in the team and you have got out-jumped by a guy who is smaller than you and he has out-muscled you. I have to say, it’s a great delivery and it’s a fantastic header. Trusty has to be stronger in that position and it could have cost Celtic the three points. There is work to do. The two centre-halves on that performance.”

Carter-Vickers is the main centre-back, nobody is going to dispute that, but after that, it’s open for debate and perhaps the club need to dip into the transfer market.

Yes, Celtic paid good money for Trusty, but so far, he has been just as poor as Liam Scales and both aren’t cementing their place in the XI.
