Many Celtic players have struggled this season and felt the wrath of the fans along the way.

One of the Celtic players who has been under that spotlight for the wrong reasons has been Kasper Schmeichel.

In Wilfried Nancy’s final game in charge against Rangers, Schmeichel was booed by the Celtic fans after he produced another error-prone display.

Previously, club legends like Pat Bonner have called for Celtic’s number one to be dropped, but there was some positivity against Dundee United upon Martin O’Neill’s second return to the dugout.

Should Celtic prioritise replacing Kasper Schmeichel in the transfer window?

There will still be a lot of Celtic fans wanting Schmeichel to be replaced, but you are only as good as your last game.

And, on Saturday, Celtic eased past Dundee United, including securing a clean sheet. The last one was against Dundee just before O’Neill left.

Speaking on BBC Radio Scotland, the discussion was around Nancy’s stubbornness not to change his back three and play a back four.

Bonner was expressing how much better Celtic look when playing a back four, no matter how the set-up is in front of them.

That’s when Celtic’s legendary goalkeeper pointed towards the man in the sticks now, and how even he looked ‘much more comfortable’ against Dundee United.

“Why on earth do you (Nancy) come in and change it?” said Bonner. “Just let it go. Make those little alterations to maybe how you want to play the game.

“But let it flow from playing a 4-4-3, 4-4-2, or 4-4-1-1, or whatever way you want to do it. But keep that back four intact.

“Even Schmeichel looks much more comfortable against Dundee United, especially with the ball at his feet.”
