Brendan Rodgers is a hard man to please.
That was proven when Celtic were beaten by St Johnstone in April in Perth, and despite the Premiership title being in sight, the man in the dugout wasn’t a happy man.
Rodgers called out his players after the game, and they proceeded to respond, scoring five goals in three consecutive matches, including during Celtic’s Scottish Cup semi-final win over the same opponents.
Fast forward to the present, and with Celtic wrapping up the Premiership title last week at Tannadice, it was the small matter of making the short trip to Ibrox on Sunday to celebrate.
Even though on paper, this is a dead rubber, Celtic or Rangers weren’t going to treat it that way, especially Rodgers, because he had lost the last two derby matches.
Sky Sports were the host broadcasters for this match, including a commentary team of Chris Sutton and Scott Arfield, with the latter noticing a pretty annoyed and animated Celtic manager.

Arne Engels feels the wrath of Brendan Rodgers as Celtic draw at Rangers
Rodgers deployed his usual midfield three of Callum McGregor, Reo Hatate and Arne Engels, with the latter getting a taste of his fifth Glasgow derby following his summer move to the club.
But ex-Rangers man Arfield, who has earned promotion to the Premiership with Falkirk, shared that he was ‘lucky’ to have such a great vantage point of the two managers on the touchline from the gantry.
Arfield explained how Rodgers was having a go at Engels ‘for the past 15 minutes’, including his teammates, because he was ‘so poor’, as he told Sky Sports Football (04/05/25).
“We have a lucky point of view here where we can see the two managers,” said Arfield. “I have been watching Brendan Rodgers as well for the past 15 minutes.
“I was talking about Barry Ferguson being on Jefte. I watched Brendan Rodgers, and he is on Arne Engels. Like a couple of the players are. I don’t think they think he is up to the standard, so poor on the ball.”
Engels’ stats for Celtic against Rangers
With a huge price tag comes more noise, scrutiny, and a much bigger spotlight. And that’s what Engels is finding out right now.
Engels continues to divide opinion, and you sense, given his mixed performance against Rangers, that noise isn’t going to go away.
WhoScored rated the Belgium star’s performance at 6.57, with his midfield partners getting rated lower – McGregor (6.50) and Hatate (6.35).
