Kieran Tierney could be returning to Celtic.
You suspect that’s a good thing and one that will lift the whole crowd, especially given that Celtic continue to dominate in Scotland and are showing progression in the Champions League.
Everyone associated with the club was gutted when Tierney left for Arsenal in 2019, but it was understandable because he was going to showcase his talents in the best league in the world.
But, in recent times, the 27-year-old has hit a stumbling block because of injuries and it has opened the door for a return to Celtic.
The supporters are delighted and hoping it gets done, but Brendan Rodgers decided to go down a road post-St Mirren that has caused a little bit of a stir, shall we say!
Pat Bonner critical of Brendan Rodgers after Kieran Tierney chants
Pat Bonner is in no doubt that the Celtic fans would ‘love’ to have Tierney donning their colours again, but he was critical of Rodgers’ approach to it all.
The legendary goalkeeper thinks the Celtic boss went about it the wrong way by being critical of the fans for chanting Tierney’s name, as he told BBC Radio Scotland.
Bonner highlighted Celtic’s success since Rodgers came back and how you ‘don’t want to create noise’ because everything is going well.
“He (Rodgers) wanted to come out and remind people,” said Bonner. “But there is a way maybe of doing it. What you don’t want to do is create noise. That’s for sure, especially when things are going really well.
“Kieran Tierney was a brilliant player here and he had a great relationship with the fans. He had a great relationship, especially with that group that is over there in the far corner. But he has been away from the club. He has had loads and loads of injuries. Whether he comes back or not. That’s open for debate. They would love to have him back.”
Celtic told Greg Taylor has done a ‘remarkable job’
Greg Taylor is Celtic’s starting left-back, but nobody is the wiser as to whether or not he will be at the club next season.
This is down to his contract running out in the summer, so it makes the Tierney talk even more understandable and Rodgers’ reaction to it all more baffling.
Either way, Bonner wanted to give Taylor his flowers – he made appearance number 200 for the club during the win over Dundee United on Wednesday night.
“Greg Taylor has also done a remarkable job for Celtic and coming from Kilmarnock, not big money,” Bonner added.
“He has contributed to this club in the exact same way as Kieran Tierney. No matter what anyone says, you have to support all of the players.
“Regarding Brendan’s comments, he has the right to say something. But the fans also have the right to say what they want to say. It’s how you manage that.
