Alan Hutton and Michael Stewart agree Sebastian Tounekti will be a ‘problem’ after his Celtic debut

Amid the gloom of the outside noise, it was great to see some of the new faces bringing some light to proceedings for Celtic.

It’s ironic that the next game, after the debacle of what happened during the past fortnight, was headlined by a player purchased during the 2025 summer transfer window, and that a late arrival!

Celtic beat Kilmarnock on Sunday, thanks to a stoppage-time penalty from Kelechi Iheanacho, but it was another debutant, Sebastian Tounekti, who was Man of the Match.

Yes, it needs to be made clear that it is only one game, but given how Celtic’s wingers have performed recently, there were a lot of flowers heading towards the way of Tounekti, and rightly so.

Sebastian Tounekti is going to be a ‘problem’ at Celtic

From minute one, Tounekti didn’t waste any time getting a feel of the ball because he went straight at his opponent, and it was refreshing to see from the usual robotic movement of wingers.

That’s why, on Premier Sports, Michael Stewart and Alan Hutton were giving the new kid on the block high praise, including how he will be a ‘problem’ in games to come.

Something to look forward to for Celtic fans.

Stewart: “I’ve got to say, first of all, Tounekti looked like he’s got something.”

Hutton: “I was watching it, from a fullback’s point of view, thinking, ‘oh, that’s a problem. He is going to be a problem.'”

Stewart: “These games at Killie are never easy games, and for him to make his debut there. He showed a willingness to go and commit.”

Tounekti’s debut game in numbers

Celtic’s next game is a defence of their League Cup, as they take on a familiar face in Partick Thistle manager and former Hoops player, Mark Wilson.

There is no doubt that, from a fullback’s perspective, Wilson would have kept an eye on how Tounekti performed on his debut because his early numbers were rather impressive, especially given that he didn’t get his deserved goal or assist.
