Alan Hutton states ‘there is no getting away with’ what he thinks about Celtic and Rangers gap

Celtic are on the charge once more as they look to clean up the trophies during another season of action-packed drama.

Brendan Rodgers has been here many times before, he has seen through plenty of Rangers managers and it wouldn’t be a surprise if another bites the dust sooner rather than later.

Celtic are still unbeaten this season, including starting their Champions League campaign with a bang as they put five goals past Slovan Bratislava.

Added to the Bhoys cruising past Rangers in the first Glasgow derby of the campaign in September when derby day king, Kyogo Furuhashi, does what he does best.

If everyone is honest, Celtic’s biggest test came at the weekend when second-tier side Falkirk provided them with two scares.

It required the magic of Nicolas Kuhn and Adam Idah to ensure the team’s passage into the last four of the League Cup.

Michael Stewart was discussing the gap between Celtic and Rangers when Alan Hutton interjected and offered his thoughts.

Celtic and Aberdeen have made 100% starts, with the champions sitting top as they are yet to concede a goal after five league games.

Philippe Clement’s side are five points behind their rivals, and even if Graeme Souness is deluded in his comments, Alan Hutton sees the reality.

The former Scotland defender stated ‘there is no getting away with’ the fact that there is a ‘big’ gulf between Celtic and Rangers.

Hutton added that Rodgers’ side, who also beat the Gers in the Scottish Cup final last season, are ‘miles in front’, as he told Premier Sports.

Celtic and Rangers gap is ‘big’

“I’ll be honest, I think Rangers still look a million miles away (from Celtic),” said Stewart. “The Rangers fans are expecting a challenge, but unfortunately, I just don’t think the reality of where they are wanting (to be). There is a massive gulf. I don’t see them being able to get there.”

“There is a gulf,” stated Hutton. “There is a gulf. There is no getting away from that. I think Celtic are miles in front, at this moment in time.

“I could quite easily say that, if I am honest. In terms of gulfs, we know it’s there. That’s where the pressure falls on Rangers because they are maybe one defeat away from all the headlines, because the gulf is so big.”

Celtic unbeaten under Brendan Rodgers

This has a familiar ring to it and there is no reason why it can’t be done again.

Of course, the first aim will be to deliver the trophies and then the rest would be an added bonus, as the Champions League will play an interesting part.

For far too long, Celtic have been used to getting booted out of Europe by Christmas, but they will play until the end of January, at least, because of the changed format.

And then there is now a realistic chance of progression to the knockout stages, so that might put extra weight on the league form.
