The Glasgow Derby fallout continues after Celtic made easy work of beating Rangers on Sunday.
Already this week, 67 Hail Hail has discussed Craig Moore’s strange verdict of Celtic’s performance. We also spoke about Graeme Souness bizarrely denying the gap between the two Glasgow clubs is not as big as people are saying.
And just this morning, Martin O’Neill responded to Souness’ comments and said there is a ‘chasm’ between Celtic and Rangers right now.
Next up, it’s Ally McCoist, the former Rangers striker, who admits that Celtic are doing something ‘excellent’ that Rangers just can’t get right.
McCoist: ‘Celtic’s recruitment has been excellent’
Yesterday, McCoist admitted he was devasted by the Celtic defeat and now he seemed even more down in the dumps as he compared Celtic’s recruitment strategy to Rangers’.
McCoist told talkSPORT, “I take Graeme’s point, but the key is, or one of the key things, is recruitment. Celtic’s recruitment has been excellent.
“Rangers has been anything but. You can discuss whether you’ve got £1m to spend or £40m to spend, you’ve got to get it right more often than not. Rangers haven’t done that.
“Rangers gave money to, I think it was Michael Beale beforehand, not sure how much he was given, but I’m not sure it’s been as wisely spent as it should have. I know it’s not been as widely spent as it should have.
“I mean, just look at Celtic’s recruitment. Celtic’s recruitment, I think, in this window, Brendan, he brings in four or five players for, I don’t know, we’ll say £30m, £28m he’s got it back on Matt O’Riley.
“So his net spend is nothing and they’re bringing in quality and that’s a massive thing.
“As I said, they’re obviously spending more and I get that because they’ve got more. But the process has to be the same.
“Your recruitment has got to be good and Rangers’ hasn’t been good.”
Celtic’s player-trading model
Celtic’s player-trading model is one of the core aspects of the club’s business plan that has kept them on a sound financial footing.

Success in buying players with potential and selling them on for a huge profit has been pivotal in Celtic being able to invest in the first team.
And, yes, there have been failures, but those are outweighed when you look at the fees Celtic have commanded for the likes of Matt O’Riley, Jota and Moussa Dembele.
Indeed, access to the Champions League group stages has also helped as well as kit deals with Adidas, but by and large, Celtic’s recruitment strategy has been light-years ahead of other Scottish clubs and it will continue to do so for the foreseeable future.
