Andy Walker is certain about who won’t become Celtic’s next manager after Martin O’Neill leaves

Dermot Desmond has a big call to make in the summer.

Yes, Celtic fans would prefer Desmond to pack up and leave, alongside the likes of Michael Nicholson, but it’s unlikely to happen, given the stubbornness of the board.

That then begs the question, who will, the man calling the shots in the Parkhead boardroom, appoint as Celtic’s next manager?

Of course, Martin O’Neill is in the dugout right now, but he has made it clear he doesn’t want the job long-term or beyond the summer.

But as one Celtic hero rules himself out, Andy Walker thinks another, Ange Postecoglou, won’t be coming back either.

Ange Postecoglou won’t return to Celtic

Postecoglou is a free agent right now after a pretty rough and drama-filled 2025 for the Treble-winning boss.

Despite winning the Europa League with Tottenham, Postecoglou was sacked by Spurs before he took the Nottingham Forest gig, and he lasted as long as Wilfried Nancy.

Speaking on Go Radio, Walker stated that he simply can’t see the scenario of Postecoglou coming back because he has ‘so many strong and powerful memories.’

“Just on instinct (Postecoglou won’t return),” said Walker. “He was remarkably successful here. I think the fact that he has so many strong and powerful memories.

“I understood the attraction of going to Tottenham, at the time, made him go down south, but no, I can’t see him coming back here.”

How costly will the Wilfried Nancy era prove to be for Celtic?

The Nancy era was a nightmare, and O’Neill is doing everything he can to try to make sure it doesn’t become costly.

But Walker spoke about how that could become the reason the Hoops aren’t champions of Scotland again in May.

“There is a real danger, I think, of Celtic throwing away this title,” said Walker. “That’s what they have done with this appointment of Wilfried Nancy 

“The amount of points they have dropped. They were almost level with Hearts at one point. But since Nancy come in, the amount of points that were dropped. It was never going to get better.

“Absolutely made the right call in making a change. You see with Martin O’Neill coming in, just getting back to basics. The basics are getting them so far.”
