There aren’t many managers like Ange Postecoglou.
The former Celtic boss, who delivered five trophies in two years before vacating the position for Brendan Rodgers by moving to Tottenham, is back in the spotlight again down south.
Postecoglou went from strength to strength during his time in Glasgow. His two years at Tottenham were turbulent yet successful, and his sacking paved the way for a surprise move to Nottingham Forest shortly after the 2025-26 season commenced.
A manager who wasn’t so successful in his time in Glasgow was Russell Martin, who has been sacked by Rangers after just 123 days. His passionate belief in a certain style of football is a shared characteristic with the Australian – and both have been intensely criticised for this.
Amidst this criticism, one Celtic hero has made a humorous comment after the two situations were compared.
Chris Sutton’s ‘sanity’ comment on Ange Postecoglou
As a boyhood fan of Nottingham Forest and a long-term follower of Scottish football, Chris Sutton has a unique perspective on the situations of Martin and Postecoglou.

Speaking on the BBC’s Monday Night Club, Sutton hammered the Forest support for their treatment of Postecoglou, calling them ‘entitled’.
He said: “I can’t ever remember a fanbase getting stuck into a manager and singing for a manager to be sacked after six games.
“I just, for the life of me, I don’t understand it.”
Host Mark Chapman interjected by bringing up Martin, joking: “We’re talking about Rangers at eight o’clock.”
“I was talking in a country with a bit of sanity,” Sutton replied. “It’s madness up in Scotland.
“Seriously, when have you ever heard a fanbase singing for a manager to be sacked after six games?
“I think it’s ridiculous. I think there’s an entitled element to the Nottingham Forest support, the recent success and their clear love for Nuno, and I get that and understand that. But I think it’s entitlement.”
Will Nottingham Forest keep Ange Postecoglou?
Postecoglou’s pre-existing relationship with Evangelos Marinakis was a decisive factor in Forest’s decision to hire the ex-Hoops boss.
The Forest owner presented Postecoglou with an award in the summer for being the first Greek manager to ever win the Europa League.
But has the 60-year-old’s start at the City Ground been so bad that the owner is willing to do a complete U-turn?
Time will tell. But Forest fans, just like Rangers fans with Martin, are making their voices heard already.
