Brendan Rodgers inherited a large number of players when he took over as Celtic boss two summers ago.

The Celtic manager was brought in to take over from Ange Postecoglou who left the Hoops to join Spurs and in doing so, Rodgers inherited a number of the Australian’s players.

Celtic had first-team players like Reo Hatate, Matt O’Riley, Alistair Johnston and Kyogo Furuhashi who Rodgers has used consistently in his second spell at the club.

However, there is one player Postecoglou signed at Celtic that Rodgers didn’t use who is now set for a big move to the Serie A in the January transfer window.

Ex-Celtic goalkeeper Benjamin Siegrist set for big move to Serie A

Benjamin Siegrist was signed by Ange Postecoglou in 2022 as the backup to Joe Hart at Celtic. The Swiss goalkeeper was used just during the Australian’s successful reign at Parkhead.

Released by Celtic last summer, Siegrist joined Rapid Bucharest and now, after just 13 appearances for the successes-starved Romanian club, the 32-year-old goalkeeper is set to join Serie A side, Genoa.

Gianluca Di Marzio reports that Siegrist is now in Italy to complete a medical and is expected to sign a contract with the 12th-placed Serie A club with Franz Stolz heading in the opposite direction.

The only two appearances Benjamin Siegrist made for Celtic

Never used in the Scottish Premiership or the Scottish Cup, Siegrist only pulled on a Celtic jersey in two Scottish League Cup ties.

The Swiss ‘keeper made two full 90-minute appearances in a 4-1 win against Ross County in Dingwall in the 4th round and in the 4-0 win over Motherwell in the quarter-final at Fir Park.

After that, Siegrist was never seen again in a Celtic jersey and was more renowned for his activity on social media than his performances on the pitch.
