Auston Trusty shares how the Celtic players found out about Brendan Rodgers’ exit, which was ‘crazy’

As everyone would have seen this past week, there is never a dull day at Celtic.

The chaotic scenes of the AGM provided drama, but nothing will top how Brendan Rodgers left Glasgow last month on that Monday evening.

Yes, everyone knew the disharmony between Rodgers and the Celtic board, but his resignation came out of the blue from the view of the supporters and the media, as did the verbal attack from Dermot Desmond.

But, according to Auston Trusty, it seems as though the Celtic players were in the same boat.

Auston Trusty on Brendan Rodgers leaving Celtic

Given that Martin O’Neill was sitting in the talkSPORT studios on that Monday morning, and then a few hours later, Desmond was ringing him to come in and fill in on an interim basis, it probably tells you how everything happened very quickly.

Speaking to The Athletic, Trusty stated that all of the Celtic players ‘found out by Instagram’, and it was then discussed in the ‘group chat.’

Trusty added it was a ‘crazy time’, but the players ‘didn’t hear anything’ prior to Rodgers handing in his P45 and leaving the champions of Scotland for a second time.

“We were definitely shocked,” said Trusty “We all found out by Instagram, and then in the team group chat. It was a crazy time.

“We basically found out by social media, and then Martin (O’Neill) was in the next day. It was weird how everything played out, but yeah, we didn’t hear anything.

“Everything happens fast, you know, obviously, for Celtic, it’s a business for them as well, so they have to move fast.

“Unfortunately, that’s how the sport works. The show goes on, then you’ve got a game the next day.”

Trusty yet to speak with Rodgers since his exit

It then probably makes sense that Rodgers didn’t say his goodbyes to the players or the staff at the training ground.

Given the small world of football, Trusty is hoping that, one day, he will ‘cross paths’ with Rodgers again, because he didn’t get a chance to speak to him before he left.

“The football world’s very small,” added Trusty. “I’m sure we’ll cross paths again.”
