Once again, it didn’t end well for Brendan Rodgers at Celtic, but he still left dominating the domestic scene in Scotland.
When Rodgers returned for his second spell in charge in 2024, one player he put big money on the table for is Auston Trusty.
After making the switch from Sheffield United, Trusty revealed it was Rodgers who quickly taught him exactly what it means to pull on the famous green and white colours.
The USMNT defender told Charlie Mulgrew on his Mulgrew Pitch to Par YouTube channel that he ‘learned a lot’ from the Irishman, including being ‘introduced to the mentality of Celtic.’
Mulgrew: “What’s the one thing you would say you learned under him?”
Trusty: “I just think it’s just being introduced into the mentality of Celtic. Day-to-day. How you approach things. It’s only a winning mentality.
“Coming in from the outside. The players really introduce you to it as well. The opportunity to play for Celtic, they tell you what you are going to walk into, so that helped a lot.”

Did Brendan Rodgers play ‘boring’ football in his second spell?

Auston Trusty praises Brendan Rodgers’ impact at Celtic
Rodgers left Celtic last October, but Trusty didn’t dwell too much on all of that when his former boss was brought up.
Instead, Celtic’s starting defender explained how, from the outside, he was told, not just by Rodgers, but also by his staff, what it’s like playing for the champions of Scotland on a ‘day-to-day basis.’
Charlie Mulgrew: “How was Brendan Rodgers as a manager?”
Trusty: “He was good. Obviously, the stuff happened at the beginning of the season; that is what it is.
“But he is good. A very experienced manager. He has been around town. He has been here a second time.”
Mulgrew: “Did you enjoy working under him?”
Trusty: “Yeah. Learned a lot. He had good staff too.”
Mulgrew: “What’s the one thing you would say you learned under him?”

“Coming in from the outside. The players really introduce you to it as well. The opportunity to play for Celtic, they tell you what you are going to walk into, so that helped a lot.
“Also, seeing how he runs the squad, how he ran the squad, same with Kendo (John Kennedy), how they ran the squad day-to-day. You learn a lot just being around the mix.”

Rodgers’ overall record as a Celtic manager
Nothing will top Rodgers’ first spell in charge. It was ruthless dominance of the highest order.
Yes, his second spell lacked that spark, entertainment factor and, if you are being greedy, the Treble. But it was still highly successful.
On paper, Rodgers does get a winner’s medal for this season’s Premiership title, but it’s up to Celtic on whether they want to give him one or not, and it seems like they didn’t.
Either way, Rodgers’ two spells in charge of the Hoops were legendary and trophy-laden.
