Benjamin Nygren has finally given his thoughts on the decision to award Hyunjun Yang the opening goal in Celtic’s win against Dundee last weekend.

67 Hail Hail fans also agreed with the decision to give Yang the goal, but now Nygren has finally had his say.

Benjamin Nygren on not being awarded Celtic’s opening goal vs Dundee

The 24-year-old needs nine more goal contributions to beat Scott Sinclair’s total of 28 to become the Celtic player with the highest number of goal and assists combined in their debut season.

That is still the target but in his first comments since the incident, the Sweden international admitted he didn’t realise that Yang had got the last touch, but he hasn’t lost any sleep over it.

He told Celtic TV: “I didn’t know he touched the ball. I just touched the ball but yeah, then I saw afterwards that he touched it after I touched it again.

“This is no problem. I have to wait and score a proper 20th goal.”

Benjamin Nygren closing in on 10-year Celtic record

With 19 goals in all competitions, Nygren is one away from becoming the first Celtic midfielder since Kris Commons to score 20 goals in a season.

Commons achieved that feat 10 years ago and the 24-year-old believes it would cap off a perfect debut season for the star signing.

“It would be very nice,” he admitted. “I’m going for it.

“But next up it’s St. Mirren at Celtic Park and the message is all about uniting Celtic Park, the team, the club, the supporters all together.”
