‘Bleed green’ – Callum McGregor confirms when Kieran Tierney will report for Celtic pre-season duty

Celtic’s 2025/26 preparations are well underway.

Much of the Hoops first-team squad returned to Lennoxtown on Friday for the first day of pre-season, including captain Callum McGregor.

McGregor was itching to report back for Celtic duty and feels he is different from his teammates because he enjoys the rigours and intensity of pre-season training.

Many senior players are yet to join up with their teammates, including Daizen Maeda and Kieran Tierney, who signed a five-year deal to return to Celtic.

Celtic fans have been asking for pictures of Tierney on social media platforms, but the left-back is not in training yet.

However, McGregor has now revealed when his old pal will report for Celtic pre-season duty.

When Tierney will report for Celtic pre-season training

McGregor confirmed Tierney will join up with his new and old teammates at Lennoxtown on either Friday, July 4 or Saturday, July 5.

Celtic have their first pre-season friendly on Friday evening as they take on Queen’s Park at Lesser Hampden, but it’s unlikely Tierney will be involved.

McGregor was speaking to the press to help promote Celtic’s Cork Super Cup meeting with Cork City on Tuesday, July 8 in southern Ireland.

On Tierney, the skipper said: “Yeah, he’ll be back in Friday or Saturday, a couple of days left for him and we’ll meet up then. But I’ve obviously spoken to him quite a bit over the summer.

“He’s desperate to get back in and be part of the club and help the team, get back playing and ultimately try and drive the team to be successful again.

“Of course, I’ve spoken about this quite a bit. You need a lot of good senior players which is something that we’ve had here for a number of years.

“We’ve a nice system in place and that will again be supplemented by Kieran coming back in, he’s someone who knows the fabric of the club.

“He’s someone who came right through the system, obviously done amazing the first time he was here and earned his move away.

“Now he’s decided now is the time to come back and we will have a hugely experienced player, who understands the club, will bleed green for the club and is someone who who will run through brick walls for us, so that can only be a positive thing.”

When could Tierney make his second Celtic debut?

Well, with Tierney coming back to Celtic training on Friday or Saturday, it means he’s unlikely to play any part against Queen’s Park.

It gives him a few days of training under his belt before the Hoops travel west to the south of Ireland where they will face Cork City.

Fans could see Tierney make his second debut then, but even that might be too soon for the former Arsenal full-back.

Celtic’s third pre-season game is against Estrela da Amadora in the Algarve region of Portugal, a behind-closed-doors clash. There’s a good chance Tierney will feature in that game.
