Bosun Lawal’s Celtic message as Stoke sporting director predicts ‘significant impact’ in England

Former Celtic youngster, Bosun Lawal, has sent a message to Celtic and the fans after sealing his move to Stoke City yesterday.

The Republic of Ireland U21 international sealed his permanent Celtic Park exit after agreeing to join the English Championship side following a successful season on loan at League One side, Fleetwood Town.

A popular figure amongst the Fleetwood fans, it seemed that Lawal had come of age and was ready to take the next step in his Celtic career.

But now at Stoke, the 21-year-old has signed off his Celtic career with this message to the Hoops support:

Lawal will be ‘fantastic’ for Stoke’s ‘long-term ambition’

Bosun Lawal was handed a four-year deal by Stoke City Sporting Director, Jonathan Walters, and here, he explains why he decided to spend £2m+ on the former Celtic youngster.

Walters said [Stoke City FC], “Bosun is a player who I’ve followed closely for a number of years.”

“After competing with several top clubs, we are proud to have secured his signature.

“Our ambitions are perfectly aligned, and we believe he possesses all the attributes to reach the very top of the game.

“He is not only a fantastic addition to our squad but also a key part of our long-term vision for the Club.

“We’re confident that his talent and drive will make a significant impact as we look to achieve our goals together.”

Was Lawal given enough of a chance at Celtic?

Taken on Celtic’s US Tour by Brendan Rodgers, Lawal was given the opportunity to show the Hoops boss that he has what it takes to play for the club.

Impressing the Celtic fans in pre-season games against Queens Park and Ayr United is a marked difference from being able to produce in the Hoops’ first team.

Obviously, now he has been sold then Lawal has clearly not done enough to show Rodgers that he can improve the Celtic first-team.

But is having just one appearance in the green and white Hoops enough to make a call on a player who is just 21 years old?

The Celtic fans will trust the manager’s judgement on Lawal as Rodgers will clearly have seen enough of him behind the scenes to decide he is not part of his long-term plan.
