Celtic fans can now look forward to the new season after the club announced Brendan Rodgers as their new manager this afternoon.

The Irishman returns to the club with immediate effect, officially taking overfrom the departed Ange Postecoglou.

The supporter’s attention will now immediately turn to who Rodgers will appoint as members of his new backroom team.

67 Hail Hail already spoke this morning about Dermot Desmond intervening to ensure that Gavin Strachan doesn’t follow Postecoglou down to London.

And with John Kennedy also persuaded to stay on at the club over the weekend, at least we knew it was likely that the would be by Rodgers’ side for the upcoming season.

Reports last week suggested that Jack Lyons and Glen Driscoll were two names that Rodgers was keen to bring back to Glasgow after previously working with them in his first stint as the Celtic boss.

Well, the club confirmed this afternoon who will be joining Rodgers’ backroom team in a statement on Twitter, “We are also pleased to confirm that John Kennedy will support Brendan Rodgers as the club’s Assistant Manager – along with first-team coaches Stevie Woods, Gavin Strachan and Harry Kewell, and B Team coaches Stephen McManus and Darren O’Dea.”

Brendan Rodgers spoke specifically about him continuing to work with John Kennedy. The Celtic manager said, “I wanted John to be with me as we moved forward. He is someone I know well and respect and he will be very important to myself and the players.”

It’s not clear yet if there will be additional appointments down the line.

This really is an exciting time for the Celtic support. Whether some agree with this appointment or not, it is time to get behind the manager and his backroom staff to ensure a successful defence of the Treble and to lay a marker in the Champions League.

Now, we can look forward to a busy summer of transfer speculation as Rodgers will undoubtedly add to the array of talent he already has at the club.

And after former Liverpool striker Luis Suarez’s comments this morning about Rodgers, I cannot wait to see what the new Celtic manager can do with this squad.
