Brendan Rodgers breaks Celtic silence on forgotten Alexandro Bernabei amid £8million transfer race

Brendan Rodgers has been asked about Alexandro Bernabei and whether or not he has a chance of playing for Celtic again.

The Argentinian defender has been out of sight, out of mind for the Hoops this season.

Bernabei joined Internacional on loan earlier this year and has impressed in Brazil during that stint.

He has played 21 times in all competitions for the Porto Alegre outfit and provided four assists, scoring three times.

That form has had numerous clubs in Brazil seeking to do a permanent transfer for the 24-year-old.

The likes of Corinthians were among those clubs hoping to strike an £8million deal should Internacional decide against it.

Celts, meanwhile, have been pleased with the form of Alex Valle following his own arrival on loan from Barcelona while first pick Greg Taylor continues to lead by example.

But Rodgers was asked by a member of the media this afternoon about the forgotten Berna and he was honest with his response.

The manager acknowledged the left-back’s run at his current club and admitted that, sometimes, players are more suited to one culture over another.

And asked if the stopper might be given another shot in Glasgow, the Northern Irishman stopped short of confirming anything.

“I think it’s great that he’s gone away and done well and sometimes you just find that.

“I think he’d been here for a period of time it hadn’t worked out as probably what he or the club would have wanted and sometimes that happens you go away, you go back into a different culture or a different life and back into obviously South America for him and the reports that I hear is that he’s done well.

“But there’s nothing more to add than that. He’ll finish his spell there and then we’ll look at that and see where that’s at come January.”
