Brendan Rodgers lauds Celtic star who is ‘getting better all the time’ within the training group

Celtic’s recruitment has been outstanding and continues to prove its worth.

From Brendan Rodgers’ first spell in Celtic colours to when Ange Postecoglou was in the dugout, there have been many great players to don the club’s colours and some of them are hoping to go down that road now.

In the summer, Celtic sold Matt O’Riley to Brighton for a club-record fee and he was supposed to leave a big void in the middle of the park.

But given the power and genius of the champions, they made sure that they were ready and prepared for that moment, as their transfer business is going on to prove.

Yes, Arne Engels’ club-record arrival perhaps stole the headlines, but one man who went under the radar was, Luke McCowan.

The 27-year-old joined his boyhood club from Dundee and he has made quite the impact so far.

McCowan was handed a start by Rodgers against his former club and he paid him by opening the scoring after five minutes.

Before the game, the Celtic boss was explaining his call to start his summer signing and stated how he is ‘getting better all the time’, as he told BBC Radio Scotland.

Rodgers stated that McCowan ‘deserves the chance’ because he is making ‘really good contributions’ and that proved to be the case again!

“He had a fantastic time here (at Dundee),” said Rodgers. “A real productive player for Dundee and it made sense for us to try and get him in. Try and make him part of our squad.

“He has come in and been a really good player for us. Within the training group, he is improving and getting better all the time. He deserves the chance and, whenever he plays, he makes a really good contribution.”

It was a brilliant header from McCowan and the rest of the team should have seen out the win, only for poor defending and even finishing resulting in the 3-3 draw.

For several weeks now, Rodgers has been chopping and changing his team, especially in the middle of the park.

But given how McCowan is performing, he now probably deserves to remain in the XI, with WhoScored rating his performance at 7.36 against Dundee.
