Celtic have loaned out eight players so far this summer.

The Hoops decided to let the likes of Maik Nawrocki and Luis Palma leave for the season to Hannover 96 and Lech Poznan respectively.

In addition, a number of youngsters have been farmed out to clubs in the SPFL to either continue their development, or simply earn more game time.

But there’s one young defender still in the Celtic first-team who won’t be leaving the club this window, despite interest from elsewhere.

Dane Murray won’t leave Celtic on loan

Brendan Rodgers has been speaking to reporters ahead of Celtic’s Champions League play-off first leg versus Kairat Almaty.

And conversation switched to Dane Murray, with Rodgers saying he would have no problems with playing the centre-back against the Kazakhstan side if he had to.

The Celtic manager then went on to confirm that Murray will not exit Celtic on loan this season, despite heavy competition for minutes.

Rodgers said: “Yeah, I would have no qualms with Dane. I think what we have at the minute, we’ve got five centre-halves, of which I know through my experiences that you actually need that throughout a long season where players pick up injuries and whatnot.

“Dane came through his first pre-season since he was 18, this summer was his first complete one. He came through it really, really well.

“And me looking at him and seeing him coming through that, I’ve been a big admirer of him and I think he’s got all the tools to reach the very highest level.

“You know, his size, his pace with the ball. And once he gets a fraction more development, then he’s going to he can be a really, really good player.

“His challenge now at the minute is he’s competing with Cameron Carter-Vickers, who’s been the stalwart here.

“But I’ve got no doubt over the next 12 to 18 months, there was lots of clubs have asked about him on loan and that’s what I’ve had to weigh up, do I send him out, do I keep them here?

“But no, he will stay here because I think he’s a player, he will contribute for us.

“And okay, at the beginning now, he might not be playing every single week, but I know like against the Premiership team the other night, have no qualm. Bam, in you go. If he had to play tomorrow night, I would have no qualm.”

Murray’s had a great week at Celtic

This season has started brilliantly for Dane Murray. From being constantly praised by his manager, to then signing a new contract and scoring his first senior goal for Celtic.

Murray signed a new contract that will now expire in 2028, before heading into the back of the net against Falkirk in the Premier Sports Cup victory last Friday.

Rodgers clearly rates the 22-year-old, and while he may still struggle for game time this season, the defender is definitely one for the future.
