Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers has addressed the speculation linking Jamie Vardy with a move to Parkhead.

The Scottish Sun claim that Vardy is ‘desperate’ to join the Scottish Premiership champions after leaving Leicester City in the summer.

Vardy is also being linked with Napoli, but Roger Hannah says Celtic is his number one destination for this season.

Sky Sports have made it clear that, as of yet, there has been no contact between Vardy and Celtic about a possible free deal.

Rodgers quizzed on Vardy to Celtic transfer speculation

Reporters have now quizzed Rodgers on the Vardy rumours, with the Celtic manager remaining coy. However, he did praise the 38-year-old forward.

Speaking at his pre-match Champions League play-off first leg press conference, Rodgers said: “Listen, I would not speak about any individual player.

“Of course, I’ve worked really well with Jamie. He was brilliant for me in my time at Leicester. But no, there’s been so many names floated about. But I wouldn’t disclose anyone.”

Billy Dodds has doubts over Vardy to Celtic

Speaking on The Go Radio Football Show last week, former Rangers coach Billy Dodds doesn’t think Vardy is a guaranteed starter if he signs for the Bhoys.

Dodds said: “He would cost a lot in wages, but he wouldn’t cost a lot in transfer fee because he’s a free. It wouldn’t be a daft one, but they’ll probably have other signing targets in the striking position before Vardy.

“The one thing I would add to that, and Andy (Walker) will probably agree with me, I’ve been reading that he wants to play. I don’t think he’s guaranteed that at Celtic playing week in, week out.

“When you get someone of that experience and he’s not playing… I’m not saying he wouldn’t be happy but he’s already made it clear he wants to go somewhere and play every game before he finishes his career.”
