Brendan Rodgers told to drop his own signing from Celtic XI, as he continues to ‘blame others’

Celtic’s recent win over Motherwell still shouldn’t paper over the cracks.

Even Brendan Rodgers himself addressed, after Daizen Maeda’s stoppage-time winner, that Celtic are ‘nowhere near’ the levels he wants.

On the bright side, Celtic are still unbeaten on the domestic stage, but after the October international break, are changes still in order?

Over on Open Goal, Celtic’s number one goalkeeper, Kasper Schmeichel, has come under fire, and it’s not the first time that has happened this season.

Brendan Rodgers told to drop Kasper Schmeichel from the Celtic team

There have been calls from legendary figures, such as Pat Bonner, for Celtic to drop Schmeichel, and now Paul Slane has joined that train.

Slane noted the mistakes Schmeichel was making during Celtic’s Europa League defeat to Braga, but rather than owning up to it, he would ‘blame other people.’

Viljami Sinisalo is Celtic’s back-up keeper, and Slane thinks it’s time for him to come in and take Schmeichel’s place in the side.

“I think players need to come out,” said Slane. “See Schmeichel, he is driving me nuts. See the other night on Thursday, Celtic started amazing vs Braga. The first 10-15 minutes were really, really good.

“He gives the ball away four times, and he blames other people. I would, honestly, I would take him out. I would take Schmeichel out. I would play him (Sinisalo).

“He blames everybody else. It’s not my fault. It’s the players’ fault.”

Rodgers ‘doesn’t know’ what’s his best Celtic XI

The issue with Celtic is: how the previous campaign ended, and how abject the 2025 summer transfer window was. It all just piles onto the team looking off-colour.

Slane thinks Rodgers ‘doesn’t know his best team’, as he rotated once again over the weekend, with the midfield and forward line the biggest of concerns.

“I think the basics of the game, the running, there is a lack of tackling, it’s so, so flat,” said Slane. “I can’t work out why it’s so flat. Even through the atmosphere in the crowd.

“It’s not good football that you are watching. I still don’t think Rodgers knows his best team. He can’t work out what’s the best front three. The midfield, he can’t work out what’s the best midfield now.”
