Two of Scotland’s most successful teams of the last decade came face to face in the Scottish Cup semi-final on Sunday.

Celtic thrashed St Johnstone and booked their final ticket, where Aberdeen are waiting, including four first-half goals from the Treble-chasers.

St Johnstone might be sitting bottom of the Premiership table, but not only did they beat Celtic most recently, they also have had domestic success in recent times.

During the 2020/21 season, with Callum Davidson in the St Johnstone dugout, he guided the Perth-based club to two domestic trophies – the Scottish Cup and the League Cup.

Davidson was most recently in charge of Queen’s Park, and he was at Hampden to watch Celtic put on a masterclass against his former team, as he had some brilliant words to say about one man in green and white colours.

Callum Davidson lauds Celtic legend James Forrest

James Forrest has returned from injury and has instantly found himself back in Celtic’s XI, as they edge towards the Premiership title and the Treble.

Winning, winning, and doing nothing but win trophies is something Forrest has been used to, as Davidson wanted to give the winger his flowers.

Davidson shared that he was ‘fortunate’ to coach Forrest, and that he was always wary of the player because of his record against St Johnstone.

“The one I like to see is James Forrest on the teamsheet,” said Davidson. “An unbelievable record against St Johnstone.

“A fantastic player. A fantastic professional. I managed to, fortunately, work with him with Scotland. He is a player I was concerned about because he always seemed to score against St Johnstone.”

Forrest’s record against St Johnstone

Everyone has that favourite opponent, and Forrest certainly loves playing against St Johnstone.

During the 33-year-old’s trophy-laden career, he has lapped up the wins against St Johnstone, as well as the most goals against an individual opponent.

With St Johnstone looking like they could get relegated, this is perhaps the final time Forrest faces the club.
