With the Celtic first team’s pre-season training camp in Portugal and the upcoming Japan Tour grabbing all the headlines this week, it is easy to forget that there is other news surrounding the club coming up.

Like the FIFA Women’s World Cup for example. The tournament is being jointly held in Australia and New Zealand and Celtic have two players representing the club over the course of the next two weeks.

Celtic midfielders Shen Mengyu and Liv Chance have both been selected for the Chinese and New Zealand squads respectively with Mengyu being tipped by FIFA as one of the players to watch in the tournament.

FIFA describe Mengyu as ‘combative and hard-working’ and as a player who is already ‘compiling an impressive footballing CV’ with the two Scottish Cup wins cited as part of her early career successes. [FIFA]

Olivia Chance has also been credited as a player to keep a close watch on highlighting the Celtic midfielder as a ‘key creator’ in a New Zealand team that can be lacking in creativity. [FIFA]

v Haiti; Friday 28th July, Kick-off 12pm live on ITV1

The Women’s game in Scotland really kicked up a notch last season after Celtic were involved in exciting final-day title drama and when they retained the Scottish Cup for the first time in their history.

The Women’s World Cup will, hopefully, continue that trend and we wish Shen Mengyu and Liv Chance the best of luck in the upcoming fixtures.
