Celtic change tack on Aston Villa’s Louie Barry but it will please the fans

Aston Villa’s Louie Barry has recently been linked with a move to the Bhoys.

Celtic were said to be looking to take Barry this January on loan as Brendan Rodgers looks to bolster his attacking options for the second half of the season.

Injuries to Celtic duo Nicolas Kuhn and Daizen Maeda have exposed a lack of quality in the wide areas as Rodgers tinkers with his squad to accommodate the loss of his two biggest goal threats.

The Celtic manager has had to shift Kyogo Furuhashi out onto the right flank in place of the German winger as Hyunjun Yang fills in for the Japanese speed king.

In truth, this short-term fix has offered nothing to the Hoops attack and it seems that Rodgers plans to remedy that by tempting Aston Villa’s Barry with a move to Celtic.

However, it seems that the Parkhead boss may well have changed tact and a loan move is no longer on the cards.

Celtic are looking to buy Aston Villa starlet Louie Barry

It seems that Celtic are not looking to seek a temporary move for Louie Barry as first thought.

The Daily Record says the Parkhead club are set to go all in and test the Premier League club’s resolve and place a ‘seven-figure bid’.

The 21-year-old has just been recalled from Stockport County where he impressed Villains manager, Unai Emery after he scored 25 goals in 46 appearances for the League Two side.

Barry has been offered a new deal at Villa Park but has yet to put pen to paper.

Why Celtic are interested in Aston Villa’s Louie Barry

At just 21, Barry fits the recruitment model that Celtic have in investing in young, talented players to sell on for a profit at a later date.

But on top of that the former England U18 international is a very good player who could make an instant impact at Celtic.

In 172 career appearances, Barry has scored 62 goals and created 22 as he continues his impressive ascent in the game.

If Rodgers can manage to get this deal over the line then it will add some serious talent to the wide areas but most likely spell the end of Palma’s Celtic career.
