Celtic have confirmed Stiliyan Petrov and Artur Boruc as the first two players to pull on the Hoops for the legends match against English Premier League side Liverpool.
Although it would be interesting to see Ange Postecoglou’s side go toe-to-toe with Jurgen Klopp’s team, on this occasion, it will be a match between legends from both clubs.
For many supporters, the prospect of seeing some of their favourite players from past Celtic teams pull on the green and white Hoops once more may be an even more exciting prospect!
It is bound to be a fixture filled with star-studded names from both clubs, as the Foundation charities of Celtic and Liverpool aim to raise money at Anfield.
With the game just under four months away, there is still plenty of time for the teams of legends to come together.
However, Celtic kicked things off by announcing the first two former club icons that will be representing the Bhoys legends side in 2023.
Stiliyan Petrov and Artur Boruc.
Both players will be considered modern-day greats in the club’s history, having created many special memories during the era of the early 2000s.
Petrov’s spell at Parkhead ran from 1999-2006, with his best days at the club coming under the management of managerial great Martin O’Neill.
The Bulgarian scored some fantastic and memorable goals in his time, including strikes against Juventus and in the famous 6-2 win over rivals Rangers.
His connection with the club has continued to grow stronger after some difficult times in his life, and to this day, he is regularly seen on Sky Sports taking up the Bhoys.
Boruc and Petrov’s time in Glasgow actually briefly crossed paths, with the goalkeeper arriving a year before the midfielder’s Celtic Park exit.
Again, Boruc is another player who will be remembered fondly by the Parkhead faithful, producing some incredible moments on the European stage.
Recently, Celtic played a part in the Polish shot-stoppers farewell to football, as Postecoglou’s side faced Legia Warsaw in the summer.
Now, after his retirement from the game, Boruc will once again be pulling on his gloves and Celtic goalkeeping strip as part of a legends side to face Liverpool.

Although March will mark a short break for the Celtic first team during the international break, supporters at least have something to look forward to.
Boruc and Petrov are the first two players confirmed that will be taking part in the exciting legends match at Anfield next year, and you would imagine there are more announcements of club icons on the way.
We have seen plenty of these matches over the years, with the likes of Henrik Larsson and Lubo pulling on the green and white Hoops once more.
There is sure to be plenty of familiar faces on each team, and we should receive more confirmation of what the squads will look like in the coming months.
The chance to see some old favourites in action for Celtic is a unique opportunity, so it should be good to see them come together to raise money for a fantastic cause.
