The wait for Celtic’s new manager seems to be over.

Brendan Rodgers left Celtic at the end of October, and now his replacement could be coming into the building in the form of Wilfried Nancy.

The Columbus Crew boss has just finished his MLS campaign, and he recently addressed the rumours around becoming Celtic’s next manager.

And now, it has been suggested by the Daily Record that Nancy is ‘on the brink’ of taking over at Celtic, and Dermot Desmond is moving to bring in his ‘top target.’

Even though it’s the November international break, and domestic football is hibernating right now, the Celtic Park faithful have woken up to react to this breaking news.

Celtic fans react to rumours that Wilfried Nancy is ‘on the brink’ of being the new manager

Nancy has only managed in the MLS for his current club, Columbus Crew, and previously at CF Montréal.

Ange Postecoglou was a gamble by Celtic, but the Greek-born Australian had far more experience in his home country, in Japan and on the international stage than Nancy.

Either way, with this news breaking, it’s fair to say that a section of the supporters aren’t happy with what they are hearing.

@Danny644977571 prefers if O’Neill stayed on: ‘Give MON the cup final at least, send him off with a final bit of silverware.’

@twobobhack suggested why Celtic were always going to appoint Nancy: ‘Always was going to be the target. Too random a name to have been listed without any foundation. If the structure in the background is changing, it may work. Just don’t think he’s the type of manager Celtic need at this time.’

@frankieboy1887 with a brutal comparison: ‘Our very own Russell Martin.’

@Montreal_Celtic used one word to describe the Nancy news: ‘Devastated.’

But @andrewodonnell2 had a different view: ‘You’ll obviously have a better knowledge of him. Why devastated?’

@DembeleDink isn’t holding back and stated: ‘Absolutely pathetic appointment. A sign of things to come.’

@Bryzo34 isn’t feeling optimistic: ‘What hope do we have.’

@PeterGi99253749 reminded the Nancy doubters about Ange: ‘Get behind him if coming, everyone did not like the look of Ange.’

This Celtic fan, @Jack67cfc, is welcoming Nancy to the club: ‘Welcome to Celtic, Wilfred Nancy 🇫🇷🍀.’

@markmcgowan100 explained why he is intrigued: ‘Never been a fan of a back 3, but best get used to it. Interesting to see it applied against low blocks. An intriguing appointment to say the least.’

Nancy’s first five games in charge of Celtic

Martin O’Neill has been holding the fort and doing a very good job of it, including beating Rangers, which took Celtic to the League Cup final.

His sole defeat came in Europe, but O’Neill won every match on his domestic return.

But these are set to be Nancy’s first five games in charge, if he is indeed close to taking the main gig.
