It’s never a dull day at Celtic.
This season of chaos, drama, unrest and unpredictability continues to deliver, as was proven hours before Celtic’s clash at Dundee United.
News broke on Wednesday afternoon that Peter Lawwell has stepped down as Non-Executive Chairman.
The 66-year-old was in attendance for Celtic’s League Cup final loss to St Mirren at Hampden on Sunday, and he will officially leave his post at the end of the year.
And it’s like Christmas has come early for the Celtic Park faithful.

Celtic fans react to Peter Lawwell stepping down as chairman
This is why the Celtic fans have protested again, and again, and again. There will be a sense that is now working, because this is huge.
Remember, it wasn’t so long ago that Lawwell was cancelling Celtic’s AGM, with Martin O’Neill in attendance.
Now Lawwell is gone, and it has delighted the fans because it’s what they have been calling for.
As you can understand, many now want others to follow, because Lawwell isn’t the only issue at the club; he is part of a wider problem that needs to be cleaned out from top to bottom.
Celtic’s three defeats under Nancy have brought the mood right down, but it certainly has been lifted by the Lawwell news.
@AJ_CELTIC is in disbelief: ‘Omg it actually worked.’
@jg2394044 wants more board members to follow: ‘Down Who’s next We want more Keep them coming.’
@leothetim88 is another Celtic fan who wants more board members to go: ‘Keep ’em coming.’
The Ronaldo GIF has come out, as @pabs_cfc shared:
Christmas has come early for @SFCFC67: ‘I had no idea Christmas was on the 17th this year.’
@red_f1967 wants Lawwell to take others with him: ‘Take a few others with you. Good riddance. The rebels have won.’
@paul_k_98 named the individual to follow Peter Lawwell: ‘Michael Nicholson.’
@telmondo17 thinks it’s time to modernise Celtic: ‘Thankful for the years of success whilst he’s been at the club, but things need modernising now and 21 years in the same position can only lead to staleness, which is exactly what’s happening on and off the park.’
@Bricky67_ is sharing everyone’s feelings: ‘CHEERIO CHEERIO CHEERIOOOOOOOO.’
@djcrtoye thinks Lawwell is a ‘sacrificial lamb’: ‘Sacrificial lamb, they had to do something, and Lawwell was the easiest option. Still a long way to go.’
