Celtic are the undisputed champions of Scotland.
Even the Bhoys’ Scottish Cup defeat to Aberdeen can’t change the fact that Brendan Rodgers’ side had a very successful campaign.
The Celtic manager will have been disappointed not to have won the treble in his second year at the club but a league title and League Cup win alongside Champions League improvements will not be sniffed at by anyone.
Aberdeen deserved their cup win against Celtic. People will be hard-pressed to find a Hoops supporter say otherwise.
But when the Pittodrie club made this claim during their strip launch:
Celtic fans just had to jump in.
It’s not just Celtic fans who are roasting Aberdeen’s Scottish Cup claim
The claim of ‘Scottish Cup champions’ made Celtic fans recall when Rangers made this claim just a few short years ago and
@cfc1888_ was in tears and replied, “Scottish Cup winners lads, don’t be like that mob. Got to win the league to be the champions of a country.”
Even Hibs fan @ScottishIndy85 got in on the action and said, “Scottish Cup winners. No one calls themselves Scottish Cup champions. Your new top is honking btw.”
Celtic fans continue to laugh:
And @stevenmcgin roasted the Pittodrie club and said, “Look everyone, the Scottish Cup champions. Like the other Scottish Cup champions [Rangers].
“You know the other team to call themselves Scottish Cup champions who invented the phrase because that’s all it is a phrase to make yourself feel relevant. Used only by small clubs.”
What Brendan Rodgers told his Celtic players after Scottish Cup defeat
The Scottish Cup defeat did put a sour taste to the end of a sweet season and Brendan Rodgers certainly let his players know all about it.
After Celtic lost the Scottish Cup, Rodgers told his players, “The bigger picture, we’ve won two out of three domestic trophies and progressed in Europe.
“And now is the time to go away with your families, because they will need them and their support, and they have that time to reflect, and then after a few weeks, they’ll realise that, okay, we missed a chance today to win the three trophies, but still we’ve been consistently very good over the course of the season.
“And then we come back, remotivated and renew the motivation in the summer.”
Let’s hope the Celtic players use the defeat as motivation to go on and win a treble next season.
