Celtic are preparing to face Bayern Munich in the playoff phase of the Champions League.

Celtic beat Young Boys in the final group stage game to secure an unseeded place for the draw in the next phase of the Champions League.

Brendan Rodgers now has a glamour tie against Bayern Munich to look forward to at Celtic Park next week with the return leg to be held at the Allianz Arena on the 18th of February.

However, there is a possibility that Hoops fans could be banned from attending the away tie after UEFA charged Celtic for fans’ use of pyrotechnics at the Bhoys defeat to Aston Villa in Villa Park.

Whilst UEFA have made no decision yet, Celtic have been forced to release a statement regarding possible sanctions that the European governing body will enforce after the Scottish media’s inaccurate reports over the last 24 hours.

Celtic slam Scottish media as club waits for UEFA Champions League decision

Celtic had already pre-warned fans that they could face a ban from the Allianz Arena after UEFA served a notice of complaint to the Parkhead club last week.

However, as reports circulated that Celtic had avoided that fate, the club moved quickly to dispel those rumours.

In a statement released on X, Celtic said, “Please note, contrary to media reports regarding Celtic’s forthcoming match against Bayern Munich in Germany, Celtic Football Club has not as yet been informed of any timescale with regards to a decision being made on away tickets.”

What the Scottish media said about Celtic’s Champions League fan ban

The Telegraph stated that Celtic had ‘avoided’ a ban for the away trip to Munich after claiming UEFA plan to discuss the incident after the Munich game.

The Daily Record followed The Telegraph’s lead and reiterated that message as well.

The Daily Mail also claimed last week that Celtic ‘will’ receive a UEFA ban after fan’s use of pyro at Villa Park.

However, as per the UEFA website, no decision is even close to being made as the hearing to discuss Celtic’s Champions League fate has not taken place.
