Celtic have uploaded new video interviews with chairman Peter Lawwell and chief executive Michael Nicholson on the day the club held their 2023 AGM.
Celtic media employee Paul Cuddihy was the man fielding the questions as Lawwell made it clear there was a ‘dividing line’ between the work he does at the Bhoys and what is undertaken by Nicholson in Lawwell’s former role of Chief Executive.
Lawwell goes on to admit that there is a massive cash bank balance in the annual report for the financial year ending 30th June, but states that some of this money was used for the summer transfer window and on the new training complex being built at Barrowfield.
He again reiterates that it’s important for Celtic to have a buffer of cash should there be a season or two when things don’t go well on the pitch or unforeseen events negatively impact revenue streams.
The chairman also discusses his link with the European Club Association and its importance in keeping Celtic and Scottish football relevant on the continent.
You can see the videos, unlisted, on Celtic’s official YouTube channel embedded in this article below.
Nicholson and McKay also discuss current situation at Celtic
In the videos, there is also an interview conducted by Gerry McCulloch with Celtic’s two highest-paid employees outside of footballing players and staff – Chief Executive Nicholson and Chief Financial Officer Chris McKay.
Nicholson trumpets the success enjoyed by the men’s team and the women’s team last season with both groups delivering trophies to the cabinet. He also reiterates a desire to invest in the men’s first team during the January transfer window.
McKay meanwhile notes the success of the club’s transfer model and provides some important context on the bank balance posted in the results.
It’s rare that Celtic post these kinds of interviews. Arguably, we should hear more often from key figures such as these.
Nonetheless, the club are doing the right thing in sharing these videos for everyone to see, not just those who attended the AGM. Communication is always welcome.
