Celtic’s stance over Mateusz Bogusz vindicated after striker’s latest bizarre antics at Cruz Azul

When Celtic pulled out of their pursuit of Mateusz Bogusz, many may well have questioned the validity of that decision.

At that time, Brendan Rodgers was looking to strengthen Celtic’s front line and Bogusz was identified as a player who could do just that.

It was reported that Celtic were willing to spend £8m on Bogusz as Rodgers appeared to be impressed with his goalscoring record at MLS club LAFC.

Celtic backed to spend £20 million in January… can you see it happening?

After Celtic opted for Arne Engels instead, Bogusz decided to move to Mexico and join Cruz Azul in a deal worth around €9m.

But just over 15 months later, the Polish forward’s antics at Cruz Azul have proven that Celtic made the right choice to avoid signing the former Poland international forward.

Celtic dodge a Mateusz Bogusz-sized bullet

Bogusz is having big issues at Cruz Azul,  having stormed off the pitch after a defeat to Tigres, which saw the Pole looking very agitated.

But that is nothing compared to what the 24-year-old attacking midfielder is up to now as journalist Adrian Esparza Otea reveals this week.

Otea said on X, “MATEUSZ BOGUSZ: For the third consecutive day, he did not show up at La Noria.

“Cruz Azul had a morning training session and is currently holding the afternoon one, and he didn’t attend either of them.

“Some photos and stories indicate that he is in Poland.”

What Mateusz Bogusz has achieved since Celtic said no

Bogusz has been at Cruz Azul since the summer of 2024 and has struggled of late to make their starting XI.

However, here is his record since he arrived in Mexico in a €9m deal:

It’s clear Bogusz is having a tough time in Mexico but it’s clear that he’s trying to force his next move and that is the type of player Celtic certainly don’t need now, or back when Rodgers was at Celtic.
