The new Premiership season isn’t far away, and Celtic have another title to defend.

As always, there has been a lot of noise during the summer, with plenty of action on both sides of Glasgow, including Rangers appointing Russell Martin as their new manager.

Rangers fans are hyped up for the new season, even though Celtic have won 13 out of the last 14 titles, including four out of the last four.

The previous campaign saw the Hoops win the double, but the season didn’t end as everyone would have wanted, with Aberdeen winning the Scottish Cup final and stopping Rodgers from winning another Treble.

Charlie Mulgrew on the ‘maddest thing’ he saw from Celtic players

It’s clear to see that Celtic are dominating in Scotland like never before, but is it starting to affect the players on the pitch?

Charlie Mulgrew thinks so, as he noted the ‘maddest thing’ he saw from the players, and their ‘testimonial’-like celebrations when scoring against Aberdeen in the cup final.

Speaking to Open Goal, Mulgrew feels ‘it doesn’t mean enough’ because of how much Celtic are winning.

“The maddest thing for me, in that cup final, and I don’t know if you noticed it, when Celtic scored their goal, the celebrations,” said Mulgrew. “It was like a testimonial. The players. They just jogged back to the halfway line.

“Watch it back. Honest to god. They were just jogging back to the halfway line. I would read into that it doesn’t mean enough, because they were so used to winning. When you are winning so much, you are just expected to turn up and win.

“I think that was the feeling when they scored that goal, instead of running towards the fans or being buzzing.

“But it’s a hard one when you are winning so much. Dominating so much. Treble after Treble.”

It would ‘help’ Celtic if Rangers are better under Russell Martin

A fair few Celtic heroes have made the point that, for the team to get even better, it does need Rangers to be competing a lot stronger in the Premiership.

Martin O’Neill certainly feels Celtic’s European hopes will get stronger, with a better Rangers, and now Mulgrew has joined that argument.

The former defender even warned Celtic that they will be ‘looking over their shoulder’ next season after Martin’s arrival at Ibrox.

On Rangers getting better will help Celtic: “I think, aye. I think it will definitely help,” added Mulgrew.

“They will definitely be looking over their shoulder this year, with a new manager and all that.”
