The last time Brendan Rodgers left Celtic, he got verbal pelters left, right and centre from the fans for his actions.
Fast forward to the present, and in Rodgers’ second spell in charge of Celtic, if he decided to repeat his actions, then those paying their money probably wouldn’t blame him, given how he has been treated by the higher-ups.
Yes, Celtic have continued to be a huge success on the domestic stage following Ange Postecoglou’s exit as a Treble-winning coach in 2023, including winning four trophies during the last two campaigns.
But with Rodgers’ contract expiring at the end of June 2026, and the recent negative noise around transfer dealings, some are expecting the inevitable to happen next summer.

Ange Postecoglou to return to Celtic if Brendan Rodgers leaves?
The simple scenario would be for Rodgers to extend his stay, and the board to confidently back their manager. But that’s never going to happen.
Charlie Mulgrew, who left Celtic during the summer when Rodgers first arrived, shared that he is hearing ‘people mention’ Postecoglou coming back to replace the current boss.
Speaking on Go Radio, Mulgrew was giving Postecoglou his flowers for the job he did in Glasgow, including how he was a ‘breath of fresh air.’
“I have heard people mention that if Brendan Rodgers leaves in the summer, that he might be somebody who would potentially come back,” said Mulgrew.
On whether Ange would come back: “I don’t know,” responded Mulgrew. “The question would definitely be asked, you would imagine.
“Celtic fans, if they have got that in their mind a wee bit, if they do or don’t. I don’t know. Some people might. It’s a bit up in the air.
“Fair play to him, he is a good manager. He did brilliantly at Celtic. Some of the stuff. The signings that he made and the players that he brought in are still in the squad now. He was (a breath of fresh air). If you look back at the team now, the starting team, it’s still a lot of Ange’s players that he brought in.
“The likes of Carter-Vickers. Alistair Johnston. Hatate. Maeda. These are still the spine of the team that he brought in. He did a great job at Celtic. Really good attacking and exciting football.”
Postecoglou’s record at Celtic
After helping Tottenham win the Europa League, Postecoglou was sacked as the manager in June, after a bottom-half finish in the Premier League.
As of this moment, he is a free agent, and if that remains the case next summer, then you know what all the talk is going to be about.
Yes, Postecoglou was in Celtic colours for a small period of time, but boy was it entertaining.
- Postecoglou’s games as Celtic manager: 113
- Wins: 83
- Draws: 12
- Losses: 18
- Goals scored: 284
- Goals conceded: 108
- Trophies: 5
