Celtic fans are now playing the waiting game with Wilfried Nancy.

In the last 24 hours, the noise has started to heat up that Celtic will replace Brendan Rodgers with Columbus Crew coach, Nancy.

When the Frenchman’s name first popped up on Celtic’s managerial radar, it left fans with more questions than answers.

But from what Charlie Mulgrew has been hearing, the former Celtic defender is pretty excited at the prospect of Nancy taking over the champions of Scotland.

Charlie Mulgrew on Wilfried Nancy and Ange Postecoglou

Speaking on Go Radio, Mulgrew admitted that all he thinks about is Ange Postecoglou when seeing that Celtic are about to appoint Nancy.

That was a left-field pick, and this one falls into the same boat, as Mulgrew loves the fact that Celtic fans could see a different style and formation in Glasgow.

The former Scotland defender noted how Nancy likes to ‘combine structure and positional play with creativity’, and also has ’emphasis on players playing with courage on the ball.’

“It’s exciting,” said Mulgrew. “It’s something really left-field. Similar to Postecoglou, that’s all I keep thinking about. Something a bit different.

“Looking at it a wee bit, when his name was mentioned, his principles and how he goes about his work. He likes to combine structure and positional play with creativity. Emphasising on players playing with courage on the ball.

“But this is all fine and well, saying that. When it comes to Celtic, let’s see what he does. The proof will be in the (pudding). If he acts that, and wins games. And also has a style.

“I am excited about potentially a back three being in place. I think the 4-3-3, I’ve watched it for a few years now. It’s fine, it is what it is.

“I quite like the change to a back three. Four in the central area and midfield. Wing-backs with a striker. I am hoping that’s what he does and changes it up completely, because I like to see something different.”

Nancy’s record in his managerial career so far…

Nancy has had two jobs in his managerial career. Both in the MLS, starting at CF Montréal when he took over from Thierry Henry.

Whatever the 48-year-old has or hasn’t experienced in the MLS, it simply won’t equip him for what lies ahead in Glasgow.

But this is what his managerial record looks like:
