The rumours of a potential return to Celtic by Kyogo Furuhashi certainly whetted the appetite of the Hoops support.
Kyogo was adored by the vast majority of Celtic supporters after three-and-a-half seasons at the club saw him score 85 goals and win nine major honours.
Rumours that Kyogo was set to return to Celtic took off this week as Martin O’Neill pressed home the need for the club to sign a striker.
We told just before the whispers took off that Birmingham City pay Kyogo a massive £35,000 per week and he is the Championship club’s highest paid player.
However, as Martin O’Neill confirmed that it is unlikely that Celtic will sign the striker, former Hoops forward Chris Sutton has delivered a stark warning for Kyogo he really should listen to.

Kyogo Furuhashi back to Celtic… initial thoughts?
Chris Sutton tells Kyogo Furuhashi he ‘should have remembered what Celtic did for him’
Ange Postecoglou brought Kyogo to Celtic in the summer of 2021 to pluck him out of the obscurity of the J League and into the international limelight.
Celtic gave the Japan star the chance to win silverware and to strut his stuff on the European stage and Sutton warns Kyogo that is something he should have never forgotten before rejecting the chance to return to Paradise.
Sutton wrote in the Daily Record, “I wasn’t surprised at the attempt to bring back Kyogo. It made sense – if he was available. But he’s not up for it – so move on. Celtic can’t hang about while he weighs up his options.
“As for Kyogo himself, he shouldn’t have needed his arm twisted. He has had a miserable time of it but this was a huge opportunity for him to get back on track.
“He should have remembered what Celtic did for him in the first place but he’d rather sit on Birmingham’s bench instead. That’s up to him.
“I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s out the door down there by the end of the window but it would be too late for Celtic.
“I would rather they pushed the boat out for Callum Wilson.”
What Chris Sutton actually said about Celtic signing Callum Wilson
This is not the first time Sutton has told Celtic they should be looking at Callum Wilson. After the defeat to Dundee United at Tannadice, the Hoops hero was fairly vociferous about signing the West Ham forward.
Speaking on Sky Sports about Celtic’s striker search, Sutton said, “Where do you get a better striker than what you’ve got? I don’t think it’s too difficult.
Callum Wilson at Celtic… yes or no?
“There’s talk about Callum Wilson and his contract ending at West Ham. I know he’s been injury prone before, but Celtic have to gamble.
“It’s not a position that the club or the fans want to be in, but that’s what they have to do now. Celtic are six points behind Hearts! Rangers have caught them up.”
