Celtic love a comeback story, and there have been a fair few of them in recent times.
From Kieran Tierney and Jota on the field of play to Brendan Rodgers and Martin O’Neill in the Celtic Park dugout.
With Celtic looking for a new manager this summer, the name of Neil Lennon, who has had two spells as manager in Glasgow, was mooted to Chris Sutton.
But it’s fair to say that the former striker, who won numerous trophies alongside Lennon as players, completely shut down the suggestion of the Dunfermline Athletic boss taking the reins again at Celtic.
“No, that just isn’t going to happen,” said Sutton. “What was the guy’s name? That was a stupid question. That ship has sailed.”

Should Celtic re-appoint Neil Lennon as manager?
Chris Sutton has completely shut it down!
Chris Sutton rejects the idea of Neil Lennon returning as manager
Of course, Lennon’s Dunfermline will face Celtic in the Scottish Cup final on May 23, in what could be O’Neill’s final game in management.
Given that Dunfermline are in Scotland’s second tier, for them to be in such a showpiece event is a testament to the job Lennon has been doing.
But that doesn’t mean the former midfielder should be Celtic’s next manager, as even Kris Boyd, speaking on The Breakdown, stated that it simply won’t happen and that’s ‘not being disrespectful.’
Steven Naismith asks a question from a fan: “After the job Neil Lennon has done at Dunfermline, and bearing in mind what Martin O’Neill has been manager three times. Should Celtic go for him as their new manager next season?”
Sutton: “Neil Lennon?”
Naismith: “Neil Lennon, for a third time.”
Sutton: “No, that just isn’t going to happen. What was the guy’s name? That was a stupid question. That ship has sailed.”
Kris Boyd: “I can’t see it. That’s not being disrespectful to Neil Lennon. If Celtic are going to move on. When you look, they went back to Neil Lennon before. They went back to Brendan Rodgers. They went back to Martin O’Neill now as well.
“Looking at Celtic, they tried something under Wilfried Nancy. It didn’t happen. They went back to Martin to steady the ship and get them to the summer.
“I would be astonished if there isn’t a new manager in the summer. But it’s definitely not going to be Neil Lennon.”

Lennon’s record as Celtic manager
Yes, there have been occasions when Lennon’s comments about the Celtic board haven’t sat well with supporters.
But that doesn’t mean he doesn’t have a legendary status at Parkhead.
The Northern Irishman falls into a special category, and that’s being successful, not just as a player, but also as a manager, as his record proves.
