Celtic will be hoping for a favour from Motherwell for a second time during these post-split fixtures.

Motherwell previously beat Rangers at Ibrox, with Celtic loanee Stephen Welsh starring, and now they face Hearts on Saturday evening at Fir Park.

If the home side is victorious, their manager, Jens Berthel Askou, will only become more popular at Parkhead than he already is.

Everyone has seen or heard Askou linked with the Celtic gig; well, now Paul Cooney has claimed on Go Radio that he is now ‘the most talked about’ name inside the four walls of Celtic Park.

“The latest news that I hear is that Celtic are keen on Berthel Askou,” said Cooney. “It’s not definite. But he is the name being talked about most at Celtic Park.”

Is Jens Berthel Askou to Celtic getting serious?

Martin O’Neill is focusing on helping Celtic push for a domestic double this season, with a huge game against Rangers around the corner.

It doesn’t seem as though O’Neill will stay on for next season, which only increases the question of who will be the club’s next manager.

Askou is practically on Celtic’s doorstep, making him a relatively straightforward deal to get over the line.

Crucially, the champions of Scotland wouldn’t have to play a frustrating waiting game for his service, unlike the complicated pursuit of fellow rumoured target, Portugal boss Roberto Martinez.

Either way, with Celtic fans still in the dark about the next manager, it’s a positive that someone like Askou is being talked about so much.

“He’s not Manager of the Year,” said Cooney. “But he is one that is certainly wanted.
